Project Overview

A brief look at the game's concept, mechanics, and development journey.

Taking out the Trash! is a 3D, physics-based minigame developed in just 6 days for a private rapid ideation event, with the theme "COP26." In the game, your objective is to clean the streets by collecting trash and tossing it into dumpsters to earn points. The dumpsters yield different points depending on their movement speed.

The jam lasted for two weeks: Week 1 was dedicated to planning, and Week 2 focused on production. The art assets were outsourced, and the sound effects were sourced from either Freesound.org or YouTube (Copyright-free) under the Creative Commons license.

Development Highlights

Driving the vision, mechanics, and execution as the project's sole developer.

[Sole Developer]

  • I programmed the player controller, moving dumpsters for trash disposal, item spawning, containers for collecting additional trash, and scoring mechanics in Unity using C#.

  • I also designed and built the level, featuring 3 moving dumpsters that reward the player with varying scores based on whether they throw trash into them.
